2018 Tourism Educators Conference (TEC)
May 2 – 4, Kelowna, BC, CANADA

“The Future of Work in Tourism and Hospitality…and Wine”

 (Papers, Presentations, Panel Sessions)

Submissions are invited for papers, presentations and panel sessions relating to the two Conference topics.  The deadline for the submission of abstracts is February 23 and they should be emailed to Michael Conlin at mconlin@okanagan.bc.ca  Please address any questions you may have about this Call or the Conference to the same email address.

The Conference has two themes – a primary theme focusing on the future of work in the industry – and a secondary theme incorporating research and thinking about the business of wine tourism. The primary theme reflects the current high level of interest in future oriented research and the seemingly ubiquitous discussion about the impact of a range of changes on work in the tourism and hospitality industry. The secondary theme reflects the location of the Conference in BC’s Okanagan Valley, the second major wine producing region in Canada, and responds to the rapidly increasing level of research and thinking about the business of wine around the world.

The Conference organizers want to maintain the relative informal and welcoming culture that has characterized previous BC TEC events. To that end, submissions will be welcomed across a range of approaches. Specifically, submissions that reflect traditional approaches (research papers, state of the art presentations and case studies) are most welcome as are ‘cutting edge’ papers and presentations that push the boundaries of discussion with respect to either theme (see Dimitrios Buhalis’s posting on Trinet, January 14 regarding Tourism Review).

Without limiting the scope of your thinking, some suggested topics include but are not limited to:

  • Gender, age, and cultural changes and challenges in the future world of work
  • Mobility and technology advancements and challenges in the future world of work
  • Generational changes and the notion of service in the future world of work
  • Minorities, the disabled, and the concept of lifestyle employment in the future of work
  • Robotics and artificial intelligence in the future of work
  • Any relevant topic pertaining to wine tourism

We would be pleased to consider submissions on any topic generally relevant to the two themes of the Conference.
